I DO NOT CLAIM THE RIGHTS TO THIS SONG. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - The E Street Shuffle [LIVE] This show was broadcast live on WGTB-FM, Washington, DC in 1974 Location: Gaston Hall, Georgetown University, Washington, District of Columbia Song Taken from the Live Bootleg, "Saint In The City". Scintillating instrumental at the end of this tune by The E Street Band. Enjoy
This is an amazing John Power composition which he sang initially with the La’s and later with his band Cast. Lee Mavers, lead singer and composer for the La’s, resented John Power’s growth as a musician and even refused to sing back up vocals. This, and Maver’s impossible standards, contributed to John’s quitting and the La’s demise.
1974 was the best version of the E Street Band. Drummer, Ernest Boom Carter, would solo like Buddy Rich in Rosalita, David Sancious' piano intro to New York City Serenade was mesmerizing. The material was obviously influenced by Sancious, so the music was more involved and creative. Jazzier. The band was salt & pepper, three dark skinned boys and three white boys. Truly a potent mixture. Listen to Boom Carter's high-hat work during this performance. Those truly were the days. And then came Landau.....
Every time screwtube gives me the boot, i lose this song.....its almost criminal to deprive me of my playlists!😂😂😂😂. ❤ This song sooo much!
I was there ... Santa Monica peer .. early 90s..😊

Never new the la's played this back in the day. Made me catch my breath. Best version by a mile, raw & soulful.
Johns voice is brilliant on this
Possibly one of the best live tracks I've ever heard.
Three singing harmonies, beautiful! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lee said second album should be out soon.... stay tuned...
Wait, what ? For real ?
@@EloxLM_ just a few more years..
Little did the audience know that they were hearing a song from the britpop era some 4 or 5 years after this, some weird time travelling funky stuff going on there...
Lee mavers all the way so talented is voice great remember the have one 🎤 wow
OoooooMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGg this is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Wooooooow!!! My SPRINGSTEEN!!!!
The best vocalist and song writer of his generation.x
Seen these fellers at separate times in their lives wanting to perfom livr and each of them from whatever perspective are life affirming :)
Cracking harmonies on Big Black Car 😎🏍
Some unexpected harmonies, not all of which are harmonic. As others have said, it’s really tough to get levels in a set-up like this. Still wonderful to hear yet more versions.
Lee Mavers wouldn't let them use another mike so they could fix it. It's a shame!
It's live on the Radio with one mic like it was in done in the 50s and 60s, that's what they were all about...keeping it simple and organic cos they developed a concept for their sound and stuck to it. They did great and it still sounds "alive".
Legendary upload. THANK YOU!!!
Bas Peshawar ki burai Karni thi
Yeh bhi Acha hai Kabhi kehte hai ke aik hai lekin tareef Afghanistan ke shehron ki karain ge
Why was Mavers such a prick and always insisted on playing acoustic guitar?...could have had a much bigger and better sound.
@Carl Allan.. (formerly the Huyton minstrel) Actually you are right, should have looked into it more...still, he kind of only strums.
@Carl Allan.. (formerly the Huyton minstrel) I've played guitar for 35 years....he doesn't sound that impressive to me.
@Carl Allan.. (formerly the Huyton minstrel) What's that got to do with the price of eggs?.....There's plenty of artists out there whos talent is questionable (not saying Mavers is one)..your comment is a deflection not a rebuttal.
@Carl Allan.. (formerly the Huyton minstrel) No, it really wasn't...don't be disingenuous
@Carl Allan.. (formerly the Huyton minstrel) So an Huyton lad do you know Lee or played with him?
How can anyone dislike this ...😎
Is the drummer, like, really really far away??
Emotionally?
How old is Chris in this. He's had some career that guy
Not even been 30 years.
Sound
Lee's like "just been looking for that sound " sadly he's still looking or give up ,love the las the riffs and gear they used songs ect

الهی زنده سلامت باشیم استاد عزیز آقای آرمان صاحب چه صدای خوب دل نشین داریم 👍💐
beautiful. but haunting that I'm listening to a recording more than 30 years ago.. It's just freaky to think about, and lonely.
That was awesome! You can really hear how good Lee's voice is.
John is a pretty amazing Rythem Guitarist.... Like someone has already said this was a bit of a goodbye though.... Last words on the album "The change is Cast"
He was the bass player wasn’t he ? Lee Mavers was rhythm
@@lightningleaf23 In the La’s yes, Cast and solo stuff
@@daveholly9005 yes I know but in this song it’s the la’s and he’s on bass was my point. Mavers was a very good rhythm guitarist quite tough strumming patterns as well as singing.

Brilliant
Brilliant
Didn't know La's did this ,shows how much I know
The Sonder_uk New Liverpool band recently released their second EP this year called "Into the light","Beneath the dust"being released back in February.Take a listen see what you think.
Biblical
I think this raw version is better than the produced cast version (that's good too) Miss the Las YNWA
Dont be saying YNWA. Lee Mavers is a massive Evertonian!
@@1878Originals oh you tit that's John Power singing and he's a massive red , you numty
@@jamescody6978 The La's is Lee Mavers. End of story.
@@jamescody6978 and I know its john, you fucking idiot. But the la's is lee mavers
@@1878OriginalsSorry, can’t agree as is proven by this song. John Power wrote it and sang it, much to Maver’s dismay. Mavers and Power were the La’s.
It ended up in effect more or less a goodbye to The La's song par excellence from John Power's increasingly mighty songwriting hand. The lyrics display hurt. He was having to play nearly the same 12 songs on tour for 5 years. Very, very, fine songs but how curiously narrow it might have felt. Even though The La's in their entirety wrote about 60 or more known songs in total.
I have the set list from their toronto gig. They played 20 different songs. Including alright and another of John’s. John was a friend of my cousin so I had met him before the gig. Lee too. Solid lads both.
This is so brilliant to hear...totally effortless and beautiful, the music just flows out of them, it's so pure. Doledrum sounds great as well here, a bit slower, really grooves so good. Find it interesting that Lee introduces 'I Can't Sleep' as 'Big Black Car'…must have been changed by the record company when the album came out...him calling it 'Big Black Car' changes the way I think about that song, like 'Big Yellow Taxi' on acid...makes it feel even darker, raises the stakes, you know what I mean?
before they were signed it was mainly called I can't sleep but lee would occasionally call it big black car
doledrum was also sung don't go down to London originally, probably alluding to lee's time spent working in London in the early 80's with his dad, it gives an insight into how long lee sat on those songs, mike badger remembers hearing an embryonic version of there she goes in 1986!
